Taking creative influence from the opening lines of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s poem The Day Is Done (1844), this work offers a reflective setting of an original theme by Dan Price. In a similar vein to Kenneth Downie’s In Perfect Peace or Joyce Eilers Bacak’s The Irish Blessing, Now the Day is Done places a simple melody within a hymnal context, using it to explore the natural harmonious and often powerful sounds that only the brass band can achieve.
